The partnership tests automated trade accounting starting with raw-material transactions.
SAP shares rose about 1% to $211.10 on Friday morning as the enterprise software firm partnered with Japanese trading company ITOCHU to test artificial intelligence agents for trade accounting.
The initial project focuses on raw-material transactions. SAP's system compiles documents and business context to suggest general-ledger accounts and commission details, which a finance specialist then reviews for accounting close and audit compliance.
SAP has not disclosed the contract value, transaction volume or financial contribution of the deployment. The initiative serves as a real-world test to determine whether the workflow built for ITOCHU can become a repeatable commercial product.
