The feature rolls out gradually across Bogotá, Medellín and Cali.
Uber announced the rollout of Uber Mujeres in Colombia. The in-app feature lets female passengers choose to take rides preferentially with female drivers. The option begins rolling out gradually in Bogotá, Medellín, and Cali.
The launch builds on the 2021 release of Uber Ellas, which allowed female drivers to choose female passengers. The number of active female drivers on the platform in Colombia grew by more than 1,000% over the past five years, according to the company.
A survey conducted by Uber showed that 84% of surveyed female users would value an option to ride with female drivers, while 96% stated that Uber Mujeres meets their mobility needs. Users noted they are most likely to use the option during nighttime trips and when traveling alone.
Ángela Mendoza, general manager of Uber for the Andean region, explained that the launch expands choice for women on the platform. Riders can access the feature for on-demand trips, through advance reservations, or by setting it as a default preference in their account settings, subject to driver availability.
