The pilot with Cirba Solutions powers Cadillac Lyriq and Silverado models.
General Motors has launched a pilot program that installs electric vehicle batteries with cathode materials made entirely from recycled nickel, cobalt, and manganese into customer vehicles.
The critical minerals originate from end-of-life GM EV battery packs and are processed by recycling partner Cirba Solutions. The 100% recycled materials met GM's original safety and performance specifications. They are now installed in Cadillac Lyriq and Chevrolet Silverado EVs sold to customers.
The US automaker, which carries a reported market value of $73.5 billion, aims to establish a closed-loop supply chain for future trucks, crossovers, and cars. Investors will watch whether GM can scale the recycling initiative across its Ultium-based models to lower supply costs and improve battery economics.
