América Móvil spent COP 80,000M after Colombia quake

América Móvil subsidiary Claro Colombia invested over COP 80,000 million to repair infrastructure and restore services following an earthquake on August 10, 2026. The disaster impacted Valle del Cauca, Chocó, Risaralda, and other departments.

Rodrigo de Gusmao, president of Claro Colombia, detailed the recovery efforts at the Claro Tech Summit 2026 in Cartagena. The earthquake damaged 681 base stations due to power outages and damaged poles and cables, disrupting services for more than 2.1 million users, including nearly 1.8 million prepaid customers and 250,000 corporate clients.

To address the emergency, the operator acquired 151 power generators and supplied 34,000 gallons of fuel. It also provided free calls, data, and text messages to 2 million prepaid users.

The company restored 80% of affected base stations within three days and recovered 100% of fiber nodes. Base station recovery currently stands at 99%.
