Ford idles 3,500 workers in F-150 plant shutdown in Michigan

Ford Motor Company paused production of its F-150 pickup truck at the Dearborn Truck Plant in Michigan, idling roughly 3,500 workers. The shutdown began on September 24 and runs through September 29, 2026, according to an internal company memo reviewed by Reuters on September 25, 2026.

The stoppage hits Ford's most profitable franchise. The F-Series has ranked as the top-selling vehicle line in the United States for 44 consecutive years as of 2026. However, demand has weakened recently. Ford's overall vehicle sales in the country fell 10% year over year through August 2026, while F-Series sales dropped 11% over the same period.

The interruption arrives while dealer supplies remain tight. Nationwide dealer inventory sits between 45 and 52 days of supply as of September 2026. That range remains below Ford's optimal target of 55 to 65 days of dealer inventory.
