América Móvil's Colombian unit invested $180 million in spectrum and network deployment.
América Móvil subsidiary Claro Colombia announced during Andicom 2026 that its 5G network now reaches 100 cities and municipalities. The network covers potentially 55% of Colombia's population in just over two years, growing from its initial rollout across six cities in February 2024.
According to Claro Colombia President Rodrigo de Gusmao, infrastructure deployment required an investment of more than USD $60 million. This capital expenditure comes on top of USD $120 million previously allocated by the company to acquire spectrum.
The latest expansion phase added 23 municipalities across departments including Antioquia, Boyacá, Caldas, Cauca, Cesar, Cundinamarca, Huila, Magdalena, Meta, Nariño, Norte de Santander, Risaralda, Santander, and Tolima.
Addressing damage from an earthquake on 10 August, De Gusmao said the operator invested more than $30,000 million to restore coverage. The funds went toward repairing antennas, reconnecting services, and deploying power generators.
