The company completed the first unit of its IRON robot and targets mass production by late 2026.
XPeng Inc. announced on 7 September 2026 that its humanoid robot production lines are operational. The company completed production of its next-generation humanoid robot, IRON, which autonomously walked off the line. Core processes on the assembly line feature over 80% automation, applying automotive-grade manufacturing standards to robotics.
IRON features 76 degrees of freedom across its body, including 21 in each hand, built with an enclosed flexible lattice structure. It is powered by three Turing AI chips delivering up to 2,250 TOPS of effective computing power. This hardware enables the robot to run its Physical AI foundation model locally without remote operation.
The robot production lines were created from scratch with no precedent to follow. Today's step is small, but XPENG is building the production lines for an entirely new product category. Looking ahead, XPENG will continue to explore faster production rhythms and greater scale in robot manufacturing, charting a new path toward a leading robot manufacturing industry in China and globally.
XPeng expects gross margin per unit for humanoid robots to be significantly higher than that of new energy vehicles. On 24 August 2026, the robotics unit raised over $900 million from multiple investors at a post-money valuation exceeding $6.3 billion. The company plans to reach mass production by the end of 2026, with store and campus rollouts ahead of commercial deliveries in China and international markets in 2027.
