Shop Pay will enable automated checkout inside the new mobile assistant.
Shopify shares rose approximately 7% on Monday after the company announced a partnership with Meta Platforms. The agreement integrates Shopify's shopping and payment capabilities into Meta's recently launched artificial intelligence agent, Muse.
Shopify CEO Tobi Lutke announced the deal on Monday, explaining that it enables agentic checkout through Shop Pay across all Shopify stores. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg confirmed the partnership on X, stating that the collaboration would make shopping and checkout easier in Muse. The technology allows the AI assistant to help consumers complete purchases directly, extending its function beyond search and recommendations.
Meta launched Muse earlier in September as a personal AI agent available via a mobile app. In its first two weeks, the app overtook OpenAI's ChatGPT as well as prediction markets Kalshi and Polymarket in Apple App Store rankings.
The collaboration highlights divergent strategies among retail giants. While Shopify is integrating with Meta's assistant, Amazon has blocked Muse from accessing its retail platform.
