Any user can access the test features directly from the home screen.
On 17 September 2026, Roku announced the launch of Roku Labs, a program that lets any user test experimental apps directly on its home entertainment platform. Unlike programs that require special registration, Roku owners can access these features through a dedicated Roku Labs tile on their home screen.
The program begins with four apps in development: Backdrops Studio for customizing background art and images, Roku Immerse for custom screensavers, Roku Weather for dedicated forecasts, and Roku Stocks for tracking shares. The company said users can provide feedback to shape how these features evolve.
Over the coming months, Roku plans to introduce its updated home screen layout to users in Mexico and Brazil. It will also add voice-based weather requests and update its search tool with explanations for why content appears in specific rankings.
Roku is also making Roku LT OS open source. The operating system powers its remote controls and smart home hardware. The development kit will be available for free alongside a video training series for developers.
