Ecopetrol will open an office in Barranquilla

Joaquín Gutiérrez formally took office as the new president of Ecopetrol on Friday, September 25. The official ceremony was led by President Abelardo De La Espriella at the Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino in Santa Marta.

During his inaugural address, Gutiérrez announced that Colombia's largest oil and energy company will establish an alternate corporate headquarters in Barranquilla, the capital of the Atlántico department. He framed the decision as an operational decentralisation to strengthen presence in the Caribbean region.

Gutiérrez also focused Colombia's energy growth prospects on deepwater natural gas discoveries in the Caribbean Sea off the department of Magdalena. He highlighted the strategic importance of the Sirius offshore discovery and adjacent marine blocks to secure the country's energy supply and self-sufficiency over the coming decades.
