Clinical trials tested topical regimens and DiamondGlow dermabrasion in patients taking weight-loss drugs.
On 17 September 2026, AbbVie subsidiary Allergan Aesthetics announced results from two single-center clinical studies evaluating skincare regimens alone and alongside DiamondGlow dermabrasion in individuals taking medical weight loss medications, including GLP-1 receptor agonists. The findings were presented at the Science of Skin Summit, held from 17 to 20 September 2026 in Austin, Texas.
The trials assessed skin quality across the face, neck, upper inner arms, and distal thighs. In the 12-week study of nine completing participants using a growth factor serum, neck cream, and body lotion, investigators observed statistically significant visible improvements in dryness, tone evenness, crepiness, roughness, lines, wrinkles, and texture starting at week two. Participants reported facial skin looked approximately 10 years younger after four weeks of twice-daily serum use.
A second six-week study evaluated 11 participants who received DiamondGlow dermabrasion along with the topical regimen. Investigators noted improvements in skin quality immediately following DiamondGlow treatment, while participants reported facial skin looked approximately 7.5 years younger after three treatments and six weeks of topical care.
Elizabeth Makino, director of clinical development and global scientific affairs for skincare research and development at Allergan Aesthetics, stated that these early data provide clinical evidence for targeted skincare and noninvasive dermabrasion in people taking weight loss medications, noting that larger studies are needed to further characterize the findings.
