Petrobras adjusts wholesale gasoline prices in Brazil

Petrobras announced on 9 September 2026 an adjustment to wholesale gasoline prices for distributors. The changes take effect on 10 September 2026 and bring the company's average sale price of gasoline A to R$ 3.24 per liter.

The company explained that Provisional Measure No. 1,358/2026 has expired. Because of that expiration, Petrobras will stop applying a discount of R$ 0.44 per liter of gasoline A previously granted under a federal economic subsidy. Petrobras will also implement a price increase of R$ 0.19 per liter for distributors.

The net impact for distributors and consumers will be neutralised by a federal tax cut. The federal government announced a reduction of R$ 0.63 per liter in PIS/Pasep and Cofins tax rates. Petrobras stated that this reduction cancels out the distributor adjustments.

Regarding a new federal subsidy for diesel fuel marketing, Petrobras stated that it is awaiting the publication of the required legal acts before evaluating and implementing the measure.
